In case you haven’t noticed, I am riding the Bern Train pretty hard. I got so wrapped up in the NY primary that I forgot it was 4/20 at first.
Normally on 4/20, I would just post a picture of Towlie saying “I’m so high right now… ” (and I still will) but instead I would like to talk about marijuana, inequality and the prison industrial complex.
- I’m not going to lie to you… I never started thinking about this stuff a whole lot until I was sued for $10,000,000 by a stranger who put my name on a document treating jail time for playing a show with a P!NK Tribute band one night for $75. I started studying the criminal justice system once I learned how messed up the Civil side was also.
When I told my mom I was being sued for $10,000,000 my Mom said, “Well, not to scare you, but innocent people go to jail for years all the times for things they didn’t even do”. Great, thanks Mom!
A few years back I played Riker’s Island. I spoke to several inmates who were in their for weed. Still, since I had no point of reference from my own experience it felt like it couldn’t happen to me. Until P!NK Tribute Gate that is. Now that I have intimately experienced the legal system’s first hand ability to interfere to fuck with an innocent person’s life… I feel the injustices of others on deeper level now.
I would have never guessed that we would have legal recreational marijuana in the United States this soon, in 2016. I love to watch “Getting Doug With High”, one of my favorite internet shows…
All that being said, it blows my mind that while a certain group of people get to smoke weed and crack jokes… another group of people are sitting in jail for the exact same thing. I feel like people who profit from anything marijuana related should contribute to getting these people out of jail and helping them rebuild their lives.
Smoke em if you got em, and lets light a J in the name of Justice and get these people the freedom they deserve.
