This is Dr. Mrs Smith, an online cat advice column. Enjoy, we will be back to our regularly scheduled programming shortly.
Hello everyone, welcome to "Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer". Two years ago I was dragged into a $10,000,000 lawsuit by a personal injury attorney I had never met, until I had my day in court. I was hired to sing in a P!NK Tribute Band completely unaware that the bass player/band leader who hired me had bad blood with his former friend and bandmate. Their feud ran deep as they were not only friends and bandmates, but also former lawyer and client. The lawsuit dragged on for two years. I spent over $15,000 and gave up my Manhattan apartment so I could defend myself. The case was thrown out of court and I got my legal fees back, but it was unbelievably time consuming. To make things even weirder. A story went viral about the case worldwide...except the story that went viral was not true at all. The New York Post gave the impression that the $10,000,000 went into the system because I was too "old, ugly, and untalented" for the band. This false version of events was picked up by dozens of media outlets... UPI, Yahoo News, Perez Hilton, Time etc. My 20 year professional reputation was suddenly buried under false and derogatory headlines such as "Singer Sued for Not Being Hot Enough" or "Singer Sued for Ruining Charles Bonfante's P!NK Cover Band". The clincher was this lovely and extremely false headline courtesy of Findlaw.com: "Pink cover band ruined by Bad, Ugly Singer $10 lawsuit reports". Like so many other media outlets, Findlaw.com told a story that simply wasn't true. I reached out to all these media outlets to let them know that their reporting was false. They didn't care and neglected to make satisfactory changes. Needless to say, this took over my entire life, so I started "Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer" just to cope. I used this blog as a tool to work through the heartbreak. Eventually I got my sense of humor back, started fighting got legal reform and did exposes on the media outlets who told the wrong story.. while giving kudos to those who did it right. Occasionally, I like to throw in random stories from my checkered past for variety. Enjoy "Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer". I hope to educate people about the state of the legal system through sharing my story. What happened to me can happen to you! Update: I won the case!!! I am getting all my legal fees back (minus what I raised online) and my therapy bills covered. The man who sued me has also agreed to a public apology. That is worth $10,000,000 to me! Update number 2: I got my legal fees back, but the public apology never came. The Plaintiff went back on his word. Update #2: The personal injury attorney who agreed to a public apology never delivered it. Lame. Enjoy, please feel free to say "hi"! I am always looking for guest bloggers also who have had their own trials and tribulations (pun intended) with the system... or with the media. Also if you google "Bad, Ugly Singer", I come up on the front page. WTF? Enjoy the blog!
